Library of Monaco

HSH Prince Albert I wish to enhance his country's cultural and ethical outreach spurred the creation of a centre promoting study and research activities in Monaco.

Monaco's library was inaugurated on April 2, 1909 at "Maison Marquet", located at 32 rue Grimaldi, owing to a sovereign ordinance dated January 25 of the same year.

As of 2006, the library also receives legal deposit of the Principality of Monaco hence assuming the role of national library.

450,000 documents, books, DVDs, CDs, French and foreign newspapers, magazines, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, manuscripts, prints, photographs, music partitions and correspondence, all belonging to the multimedia library, are available to the public at two different locations.

As a leader of Monaco's cultural life, the multimedia library is also at the origin of numerous literary workshops, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, film showings, writing and lecturing seminars...
